Known throughout the Hammond community as “The Forbes House,” this home was once the center of family gatherings, entertaining, horseback riding, and life on the farm as H.P. Forbes and his wife entertained frequently. It became beloved not only for the memories made there, but also for its distinctive architecture and beautiful craftsmanship. Many recognize its classic style as reminiscent of a Cape Cod design, with original details including cypress paneling downstairs, painted knotty pine upstairs, and red oak floors throughout. Much of the wood used to build the home was harvested directly from the property, making this house a meaningful part of local history.
After sustaining damage during Hurricane Ida in August 2021, the Farmhouse underwent a major restoration and renovation. The result is a home that honors its legacy while delivering the quality and functionality of new construction within Forbes Farms.
Extensive improvements include:
Inside, the family room features a modern electric fireplace and hearth set into a beautifully paneled cypress wall, creating a warm focal point that bridges the home’s historic character with its updated design.

The kitchen has been completely refreshed with carefully selected finishes that feel both inviting and refined. It features new natural wood cabinetry with a cream-colored finish, while the island adds contrast and character with sage green cabinetry. A soft green tile backsplash complements the island, and all countertops are finished in Island quartz for a clean, elegant look.
The oversized island was designed with gathering in mind, featuring a 36-inch-wide countertop over a 24-inch base, creating a generous 12-inch overhang for barstool seating.
Just off the kitchen, the walk-in pantry is a standout feature with abundant wood shelving, room for a second refrigerator, and plumbing in place for an icemaker. The primary kitchen refrigerator is also plumbed for an icemaker. Nearby, you’ll find a spacious laundry room that adds even more everyday convenience.
All three bathrooms have been completely rebuilt and redesigned. The primary bath offers a spa-like retreat with both a freestanding soaking tub and a tiled walk-in shower. Downstairs bedroom closets were reworked to provide abundant clothing and shoe storage, and the home features huge walk-in closets with wood shelving throughout.
Upstairs, a hallway between the bedrooms includes a charming homework nook, along with access to a very large walk-in attic space. Additional storage can also be found over the garage, accessible by a drop-down attic ladder.

One of the most special elements of The Forbes House is how much of its original character remains intact. Upstairs walls in both bedrooms still feature the home’s original painted knotty-pine paneling from 1949. The original interior doors have been refinished in a high-gloss surface and updated with new hinges and knobs, preserving the craftsmanship of the home while giving it a refreshed look.
The original red oak floors have been expertly refinished by a master craftsman who had previously restored those same floors decades earlier for the Forbes family. New oak stair treads, newel posts, and handrails were finished to match, carrying the warmth and richness of the woodwork throughout the home.
Entry from the garage leads into a spacious rear foyer designed for real life, complete with a bench seat, hanging hardware for coats and purses, charging outlets for phones and tablets, and its own closet. There is also enough open space here for additional appliances such as a freezer.
For added convenience and security, all four egress doors are fitted with keypad entry locks. Downstairs plumbing fixtures are finished in a warm champagne tone, adding another thoughtful design detail.
